Navratri or Navarathri

Navratri or Navarathri, also known as Durga Puja, is a Hindu Festival which starts on the Ashvin Shukla Prathama and ends on Ashvin Shukla Navami between second half of September and first half of October every year. In Hindi it is  à¤¨à¤µà¤°ात्री  and in Tamil it is நவராத்திà®°ி. It is a festival of the Hindu God Durga. During this festival nine forms of Shakti/Devi are worshiped in these nine nights hence the name Navratri.  In the tenth day Vijayadashami or Dasara. This festival is a nine-day celebration, which is also observed by Ethnic Chinese of Min Nan group in Southeast Asian countries such as  Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar as the Nine Emperor Gods Festival.

The beginning of spring and autumn are important climatic and solar changes. These periods are sacred for the worship of the Divine Mother Durga. 

Navaratri or Navarathri  is  the most auspicious period of worship of Shakti (Durga).


Rava Kesari is a simple sweet made out of Semolina during the festive seasons. It is very common in South Indian homes as well as temples. In temples it is prepared to mark any auspicious occasion and offered to God as Neivethya, which is then given to the devotees as prasadham.

Paal Payasam

Paal Payasam is also made in many temples and offered to Gods during festive seasons. It is offered to Gods and then shared among the devotees as the blessed food called Prasadham.



Sweet Aval

Aval or flattened rice is the favorite of Lord Krishna. That is why kuselar presents aval to Lord  Krishna when he meets him. Sweet aval is prepared during Gokulashtami celebrations.




Sakkarai Pongal

Sakkarai Pongal is a common Sweet Recipe made all round the year. Sakkarai Pongal is a sweet Rice Recipe, made out of jaggery, rice, ghee and dhal. It is made easily by using pressure cooker. It is flavored by adding Cashew, Raisins and Cardamom.


Rajma Sundal

I bought one packet rajma to make rajma chawl. But i change the decision to make sundal for Navaratri. I don't like to make as usal sundal. I googled  and found the recipe in raks kitchen. Rajma is a heavy legume.



Mochai Sundal

Mochai is known as lima beans in English. Another sundal recipe for coming Navaratri. You can buy all the legumes in advance and plan for Navaratri recipes.




Peanut Masala Sundal

I always make peanut sundal. I went to my friend’s kolu. She gave me peanut masala sundal. When I returned back to my home, my son loved it very much. I asked the recipe from her and I made it.



Paasi Payaru Sundal

Paasi payaru is known as green gram in English. Compared to other legumes, it is very good for health. Earlier we have seen Pesarattu made with green gram. Now let us see how to make paasi payaru sundal.
