Athikai Poriyal/ Fig Fry
Athikai Poriyal/ Fig Fry
When we say Fig the thing which comes to your mind immediately is the dried one or the fresh ones sold in departmental stores and fruit shops, but there are about 800 varieties available and among them around 100 types or edible and tasty.
In village areas the fig is available as vegetable and many tamil people make recipes using this raw fig. Now a days it is available in Chennai also. I saw every fig season one lady selling fig near Sai baba temple and mylapore tank.
As we all know fig is rich in vitamin c and is a well known anti oxidant that keeps you young and energetic . So consuming fig in any form is considered healthy.
If you get this raw fig you can also make tasty recipes out of it. But the only precaution you should take is that you should remove those figs with worms and insects inside it. Normally the honey bees lay eggs in the flower and when fruits are formed numerous larvae are seen inside the fruits as worms. You have to segregate those and throw away.
