Fresh Green Chick Peas Kurma
Green Chick Peas is a vegetable which is available only in North India during the winter season. Recently we went to Pune. While walking on the road side I found this being sold. As soon as I saw, I decided to buy, bought and made a few recipes. First I made green chick peas aloo gravy. Green chick peas kurma is a nice dish which goes well with all main dishes as a side dish.
Now let us see how to make green chick peas kurma.
Fresh Green Chick Peas Kurma Ingredients:
Green chana - 1 cup
Small onion - 10
Tomato - 1
Redchilli powder - ½ tsp
Salt - to taste
Oil - 2 tblsp
Water - 2 cups
To Grind:
Coconut - 1 cup
Fried gram - 1 tblsp
Cashew - 5
Fennel seed - ½ tsp
Cumin - ½ tsp
Khus khus - ½ tsp
Cinnamon - ¼ inch
Garlic - 5
Ginger - ½ inch
Green chilli - 6
Fresh Green Chick Peas Kurma Method:
Saute the ingredients given under “to grind” in little oil. Keep aside for cooling. Then grind it in the mixie till smooth consistency.
Peel onion and cut in to two. Chop the tomato finely. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add onion and tomato and sauté for few minutes.
Add the ground paste and sauté few more minutes. Add green chana and mix it well.
Add red chilli powder, salt and required amount of water and pressure cook for two whistles. Open the cooker when the steam subsides and bring to boil.
Add chopped coriander and serve hot with idli, dosa or rice.
Note:
You can add dry chana instead of fresh chana. But you soak the chana over night and cook it in the pressure cooker for two to three whistles.
