Thinai Upma / Foxtail Millet Upma
Thinai is known as foxtail millet in English. It comes under small grain category. Small grains are known as sirudhaniyangal in Tamil. Sirudhaniyangal are good for health. Many of us do not know how to cook. It is same as our normal grains. It is good for health also.

 Now we see thinai upma.
Thinai Upma Ingredients:
Thinai - 1 cup
Onion - 1
Greenchilli         -1
Curryleaves - few
Ginger - ½ inch
Water - 2 cup
Salt        - to taste
For tempering
Oil          - 3 tsp
Mustard          - ¼ tsp
Urad dal          - ¼ tsp
Cumin - 1/8 tsp
Thinai Upma Method:
Dry roast thinai for a few minutes. Heat oil  in a frying pan and add mustard, urad dal and cumin. When they crackle add curry leaves, onion, green chilli and ginger and sauté till the onion becomes transparent.

 Then add water and salt and allow it to boil. Then add roasted thinai and stir.

Cover the pan with a lid and sim the stove and cook till done.

 Serve hot with chutney and podi.



Note:
If you want you can add finely chopped beans and carrot also.
Add fresh peas also.
Often open and stir, to avoid burning at the bottom.
