Aval Payasam

Aval Payasam
Aval Payasam is a simple South Indian Recipe made up of flattened rice, milk and sugar. Mostly this Aval Payasam is served as a dessert after sumptuous lunch or dinner. This is mostly prepared during Gokulashtami and served as a neivedhyam for Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna loves aval (Poha).
The flattened rice is boiled or cooked in milk and sugar is added. The seasonings such as cardamom, cashew and dried grapes are also added to improve the richness.
It tastes good and it completes any good full meal. It also served as a dessert.
You can try it out it is simple yet tasty.
Aval Payasam


Aval Payasam Ingredients:
Aval (Poha) - 1/3 cup
Jaggery - 1/3 cup + 1 tblsp
Milk - 2 cup
Water - 1 cup
Cardamom - 2 pinch
Cashew - 10
Ghee - 2 tsp
Aval Payasam Method:
Heat ghee in a pan and fry cashews and keep aside. In the same pan add aval and fry for few minutes.

 Add milk and cook aval in milk. Powder jaggery and add to the payasam.

When the jaggery melts, add cardamom powder and cashews.

 Serve Hot or cold.

Note:
The colour of the payasam is light, because i used achu vellam.
You can use sugar also.
Use condensed milk also.
You can make jaggery syrup with little water and add.
Add jaggery at last or else milk will curdle.
