Chettinad Fish fry is a very popular karaikudi recipe cooked and served in chettinad. Chettinad Fish fry  is usually prepared with less spice and no batter. It is fried with coconut oil and is served along with lunch menu: Rice, Fish Kuzhambu, etc. Chettinad Fish fry is usually an unbattered fish deep fried in oil.
Chettinad Fish fry goes well as a starter or as a side dish along with other lunch recipes or dinner recipes. Chettinad Fish fry is usually prepared with large fishes with fewer bones. Fish slices make a good choice but small whole fishes also taste better than the larger ones.

Chettinad Fish fry Ingredients;

Any  fish              - 400 gms
Chilli powder         - 1 ¼ tsp
Turmeric powder  - ½ tsp
Pepper powder       - ¼ tsp
Garam masala        - ¼ tsp
Oil                        - 2 tsp
Curd                     - 2 tsp
Salt                       - to taste
Coconut oil           - for deep fry 

 Chettinad Fish Fry Method:
Clean the fish. Add all the ingredients except coconut oil in the mixing bowl and mix it well.

Then marinate the fish in this mixture and keep it in the fridge for about one hour. Oil will bind the masalas to the fish.

After one hour take the fish from the fridge and deep fry in the coconut oil.
Serve hot with rice.

Note:
You can shallow fry the fish also.
You can use coconut oil or any refined oil for deep fry or shallow fry.
You can use lime juice instead of curd.
You can store it in the freezer for about 3 days.
